Sort of a Christmas Special

2011
Music
Recap

Hello wonderful people
Although 2011 isn't quite over yet, I decided to complete my musical recap a little early. When it comes to new artists, I am usually slow with discovering their other songs unless I am immediately interested in other songs on the album. There are a few bands I have known for a while that I just recently realized how awesome they are there are also other bands that I just found and am still discovering their awesome work. Here's my list of five bands that have caught my attention this year.

5.) VNV Nation- I've been listening to them since 2009, when my switch to Gothic music started. I thought they were a great band at first but I only listened to at least three songs of theirs. Then Of Faith Power and Glory was released last year and I slowly but surely became a huge fan of VNV Nation. I went back, listen to their older albums, and realize they only get better and better with each album and I am highly anxious to hear their new album.
Song Suggestions: Sentinel, Defiance, Beloved, Illusion, Carry You, Holding on. Of Faith Power and Glory

4.) Corvus Corax- I reviewed them for my Halloween blog and I really do like this band. When I got into them, I only listened to one album. I'm not sure what caused it, but I have been recently listening to at least five more albums, not all at once but in this year, I have added four more albums to my collection of Corvus Corax music. For anyone who didn't read my Halloween blog post about them, this band is made up of like six people, all dressed in tribal clothes. They are all from Germany and sing old medieval songs from various languages and one of the band members looks a lot like Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow character from Pirates of the Caribbean. If you like medieval music with a touch of rock to it, you'll love Corvus Corax.
Song Suggestions: Cherion, Skudrinka, Aia, Dulcissima, Chou, Chou Sheng (I'd link the songs but most of them are found on Seikilos which is already linked)
Seikilos

3.) Blink 182 - I've technically grown up with this band but I never knew much about them or their music. When I was little someone asked me what my favorite song was and I had "All The Small Things" stuck in my head and I decided that was my favorite song because I really liked it. That was as far as my knowledge of the band went until this past summer when I met Delonge Wannabe who is a huge Tom Delonge fan and his Tom-ness started rubbing off on me and I have sort of started listening to more of their albums. I only have Neighborhoods, Blink-182, and Take off Your Pants and Jacket, but who knows where I'll be in 2012 with this band. I might love them or they might just be another band that I casually listen to so often because one of the songs is in my head.
Song Suggestions: Even If She Falls, Feeling this, Reckless Abandon, All the Small Things.

2.) Angel's and Airwaves, I've known the band since late 2006 and I was addicted to The War, and when I-Empire came out I wanted that album so badly, but I never got it... I have obtained it now and I love it, also thanks to Delonge Wannabe, I have discovered Call to Arms, the most amazing Angels and Airwaves song ever. I'm dead serious, I listen to that song almost as much as I listen to Soul Survivor and I don't think I've ever been so addicted to a song before Soul Survivor happened.
Song Suggestions: Call To Arms, The War, Everything's Magic, Anxiety, Soul Survivor, The Moon- Atomic, Letter's To God Part 2
I-Empire

1.) Wumpscut - I'm not going to lie, when I first heard The March Of The Dead, I thought it was amazing, I loved it and thought it was epic, completely scared the hell out of me when my iPod shuffle would randomly play it out of nowhere, but it was still awesome. Then when I listened to some other songs from Bone peeler I wasn't that impressed with it. I figured well it's just one album I'll give another one a try. I heard a few songs from Wreath of Barbs and thought they were okay, but my attention was slowly fading and I nearly forgot about Wumpscut until this year. Thank you AOL Gothic radio for playing Black Death from Mesner Tracks because I now love Wumpscut so very much. From Black Death came Siamese Studies which is an epic jump in discography, but that album is epic so it's okay. I also have found new love for Bone Peeler, not all of it though. I have fallen in love with "Fear in Your Eyes," what caused this sudden change in opinion I'm not quite sure. Time works in mysterious ways and I hope to purchase Women and Satan first soon because of how amazing Siamese Studies was. The best part of Wumpscut's songs would have to be the amazing beats he puts to his songs. I absolutely love the music and I really wish I were smart and talented enough to figure out how to play some of Rudy's songs on my flute. However, I'm not that good and probably never will be that good at it...
Song Suggestions: Falling From Lucifer's grace, Boneshaker Baybee, Loyal to My Hate, Black Death (French, Muted Concept)/Schwarzer Tod, In the Night/ In Der Nacht, War/Krieg, the March of the Dead, Fear in Your Eyes, Opening the Gates of Hell
